Two storey oak frame extension

Surrey couple Jo and Neil had been searching for a house to remodel for years and were drawn to the open countryside surroundings of a detached mid-century property in need of updating.

They liked the warmth of oak, whilst at the same time wanted to achieve a contemporary look for their updated home. With a clear idea of what she wanted to create, Jo drew up sketches and approached a structural engineer, who drew the initial plans. The couple then approached Oakmasters to manufacture the oak frame.

Key features of this extension:

  • Two-storey extension doubles the width of existing property
  • New open plan kitchen diner, master bedroom and ensuite
  • Vaulted ceilings on first floor
  • Oak beams and frames used throughout, adding structure to modern interior
  • Floor-to-ceiling oak framed windows on both floors
  • Dual aspect dining area
  • Exposed oak framed porch is both practical and welcoming

The two-storey extension has almost doubled the size of the house and has dramatically added more natural light with the garden-facing aspect glazed floor-to-ceiling. Interest and continuity is added with oak frames between the large panes.

Throughout the interior of the house, oak beams and frames provide structural form and visual continuity.

The whole project took eight months to complete and the results are stunning. Jo and Neil employed their own builders who worked in collaboration with a team Oakmasters recommended to carry out the assembly direct for them to complete the project.
