FMB

FMB member Alskea Contracts Ltd transformed this Victorian townhouse from a dark and narrow labyrinth of rooms to a bright and spacious home.

By cleverly swapping the kitchen and living space the room now flows seamlessly. Placing the kitchen at the front of the property means they’ve made the most of the light and views from the bay window – perfect for cooking and socialising. The existing extension at the back has been refurbished into a spacious living area, and in the narrow dining area in the middle, previously a dark no man’s land, built-in banquette seating makes the best use of space.

The rooms have been unified and softened with luxurious velvet upholstery, echoes of circular lines in the furniture and fittings, and full-height panelling – bringing warmth and character to the completed project.

The builders and architect worked within tight constraints on site, communicating with neighbours to manage deliveries and build schedule. Due to a shared access path at the back, large rear patio doors were a no-go, which gave the owners free rein to up the creativity stakes with a quirky feature – a concealed door leading to a practical downstairs WC and utility.

“The whole team from the strip out stage right through to the handover day were so helpful, efficient and professional. They are impeccable builders who leave no mess behind them and create a top class product at the end of the project. Each day there was a great team of guys on site working away and we were able to complete a full renovation from top to bottom in six months which was well beyond my expectations.”
